Domestic Violence

A Shield for safety and peace of mind

The StandbyU Shield was created, based on our Founder’s 25 years’ experience in child protection and family support, to find a better way to support children, young people and adults experiencing domestic violence, abuse and isolation by connecting them to those who care through a tangible, immediate and personalised safety solution.

More than a personal safety alarm, the Shield is designed to connect the Shield User, wherever they are, 24 hours a day, to their chosen support network of Responders who can safely mobilise to prevent issues becoming emergencies.

We know that people experiencing domestic violence are experts in their lives, they do safety every minute of every day.  The Shield provides an extra layer of safety, that can be activated when the wearer is feeling worried not just when a police response is needed.

The Shield ensures that in times of uncertainty or danger, peace of mind comes from being connected - because Connections Change Lives.

The StandbyU Shield

A support network of those who know and care

The Shield User chooses the people who’ll be their support network of Responders.  It could be family members, friends, or a neighbour.  These are the people they know and who know them, their personal situation, and potential safety risks.  The people they're connected to who they know would drop everything at any time to provide the support they need, when they need it.

  • Our Specialist Practitioners support Shield Users to help them share their story and reconnect with family and friends.

  • Shield Users and Responders work with our Practitioners to create a robust Shield Safety Plan with strategies to interrupt or escalate, and a focus on ‘safety for everyone’.

  • Shield devices provide live audio and location information to Responders.

  • SOS Alarms can be activated when the Shield User is worried – before an issue becomes an incident, not just when a police response is needed.

  • Virtual conference room technology means Responders can jointly assess the audio, discuss what's going on, and activate a planned ‘safety for everyone’ response.

  • Option for in-call escalation to 000 by Responders for emergency services to attend if the situation isn’t safe for Responders to intervene.
